Departures daily at 10am, 11.30am.
This tour travels through one of the largest areas of limestone rock in Western Europe known as the ‘Burren’. The tour departs Galway, travelling by Clarinbridge which is home of the Oyster Festival and onto the fishing village of Kinvara which is renowned for the Galway Hooker boats. Our first stop is at Dunguaire Castle, a 16th Century Castle which is renowned for the Medieval Banquets during the summer months. Travelling into the heart of the Burren, the tour’s next stop is at the Aillwee Caves, one of the oldest caves in Ireland, which has 3,400 feet of passages leading into the heart of the mountain. This is also a morning coffee stop on the tour.
From there the tour travels into the centre of the Burren Paradise, a remarkable bare limestone area with its many combinations of unusual factors such as its unique geology, flora and fauna. The tour stops here at the Poulnabrone Dolmen a remarkable megalithic monument tomb dating from 2500BC and also the ancient burial site for burying our dead. From here, the tour passes Leamanagh Castle, home of the late Maire Rua McMahon and onto Lisdonvarna which is renowned for the Matchmaking Festival that takes place every September. Now, the spectacular Cliffs of Moher begin to unfold some 200 metres high and 8km long, giving superb views of the Clare coastline, Connemara Mountains and the Aran Islands. This is the longest stop on the tour and also the lunch stop on the tour.
Heading back to Galway the tour travels down to the village of Doolin which is noted for it’s wealth of Irish folk music. Travelling along by the Atlantic Coastline the tour stops at Black kead where there is an opportunity to see the lighthouse of Galway Bay and photo the Galway City coastline. The tour arrives in Galway City at about 5pm approx. A tour that must be taken to see one of Ireland’s most spectacular regions!
